You can fund members in multiple ways. We ENCOURAGE you to donate directly to members, as this gives them more control and ease of access to their funds without the nonprofit taking administrative fees or costs. But you can also donate directly to the JHFS COI and tell them you want the money to go to Siabhon’s project.

Building Skills Tools (Strategy 2) & ResourcesAlignment to COI Strategies:
Building a healthy financial mindset for kids coming from homes where that isn’t usually discussed or where finances may be tight. The ability to generate income is directly tied to ones ability to access their day-to-day needs, like food, housing etc. So this would address a piece of a root cause issue.Alignment with other COI Strategies
N/ASUSTAINABILITY
JHFS will regularly highlight the project to seek financial sponsors or individual donations to purchase books
Questions & Answers** 1. What inspired you to propose this project?**
I have been fortunate enough to have had parents who not only played games with us about money "Life" but also talked about finances- not so much wealth building per say but, for sure paying yourself first, budgeting and saving for a rainy day- be that making full contribution to an employer backed 401k, a Roth and most importantly having savings (meaning access to funds without using credit) and starting, building and maintaining an emergency fund for unexpected events that happen in one's life all the time. To this day, when talking to my children- who are adulting now, we always joke about how my mother used to say, " she can save a penny until it turns into a dollar," especially if someone asks to borrow money- here comes that interest! Anyway, I recently had the pleasure to work within a cohort through the TUL and along with 2 other cohort members we made available financial education classes which were offered to adults however; nothing for children of participants except childcare.
Also, I have been a member of One United Bank for years, CEO Teri Williams is the author of one of the main books I have used for the class project called, "I Got Bank." Exposing children at a younger age to finances and financial products is not a new idea; for example, One United has offered child accounts and an essay contest for many years as has OBEE Credit Union which has the unheard of child account with an interest rate on the first $500 you are likely not to get from any bank or credit union.2. Please expand how this project is adressing unjust and unhealthy food systems and is helping people access healthy food systems? How is this project addressing unjust/ unhealthy food systems and helping people access healthy food systems: Basically, I see this question from a food insecurity perspective in that (I hope I can say this right) I am sure there has been tons of research regarding food being directly tied to the ability to purchase. I would suggest unjust/unhealthy food systems and access to it is not only a sole result of having insufficient income and/or low income but that I would say that there is a great possibility that financial literacy not just the few given reasons contributes as well. At its core there is an underlying financial restraint. For example, I would suggest that those who fail to smooth spending between pay periods and who lack access to credit may struggle to adequately make it through a month- that would include a working household or one that may need food assistance. I say that to say, regardless- well maybe not regardless-how about other than household income, I would suggest that it is possible that those with a basic knowledge of financial literacy could face less difficulty in making financial decisions as they would have a greater ability to budget and could/would possibly be more likely to hold savings to create a buffer zone of protection. This could be the start to an important buffer zone for a child in a household who may lack these resources. It is particularly important that if one has limited resources one can better understand and manage them to avoid and protect them from future instability. Children will become adults to deal with their own finances and households one day and there is a clear gap in our community therefore; I am open to the idea of closing it, one account at a time. I hope this answers your outstanding question.

Strategy 2: Building Skills Tools & ResourcesAlignment to COI Strategies:
Specifically provides a community created and centered source of traditional and culturally relevant medicine. Community members will learn that, though plant medicine is not a replacement for conventional medical needs, it can be a dependable and immediately available supplement with benefits far beyond the scientific - such as cultural maintenance and connection through ancestral plants, and/or protocol. Which, in a way, is it’s own kind of medicine and healing that many communities of color and other ethnic groups need to maintain healthy relationships, connections and community morale.Alignment with other COI Strategies
Related to Strategy 3, Objective 3 & 4 - Supports intergenerational activities between elders and herbal practitioners, and creates peer mentorship opportunities amongst the various herbalists, and volunteer opportunities for community members learning to ID plants and harvest.SUSTAINABILITY

When asking for outside support will go with the racing theme, and put peoples logos and things like that onto our things, just like how you can see sponsors on racers. This will catch attention and give that feeling of being apart of a team! Also, looking to agent contracts from businesses and public institutions or places that have jobs to fund the pay for youth.
Questions & Answers
Asked by Glenda: Where is the greenhouse going to be?
The greenhouse would be located at Wild Hearts Farm, at 40th Ave East, Tacoma, WA.
It’s 5 acre that’s currently home to the Native Sharing Garden. We don’t have their profile up yet on the main website, but that’s a project that JHFS supported in 2020 to grow food with and for families in need (with a primary focus on serving Native people and people of color, and making a space where they can reconnect to the land), and learn either farming skills/workshops or traditional skills from various Native Nations.

A lot of trainers want to take people that are already healthy, fit and eat well because they can afford to. But what about folks that can't do that? Every person is different and I'd love to help people from the most basic beginner, to people recovering from injury, living with a disability, people looking to gain weight or be an outlet for people that simply need support.Excerpts from the application:

Questions & Answers** Please expand on the connection of the project with prioritization of healthy food systems.**
My response to that is that our training is all about helping empower and equip womxn of color to advocate for themselves and their communities on issues related to racial equity. Food justice is racial justice and vice versa. We won't get to food justice if womxn of color are equipped and empowered to lead and facilitate in decision making spaces. By putting power and resources in the hands of WoC, we see ourselves playing a major role in building community capacity so that we can get to a place where anti-racist community and food justice are realized.

Connects to Revaluing food and agriculture because of its connection to other projects that teach people how to grow, harvest and use their foods, and because it is a place for community gatherings and classes to learn about preservation ways that people do not feel they have the confidence or capacity for. Built organic connections to Canoe Journey Herbalists & Native Sharing Garden, and connected to something like a network of people and groups who are both sharing or in need of foods and medicines.SUSTAINABILITY
Would like to formalize some sort of way to share which people have food resources and those in need. For example, you can say, Is anyone available to can or share 300 lbs of carrots?
